Hi I was thinking of some security so the car is still there when I get back. Does anyone have any ideas. Was thinking of a kill switch, but not sure. Maybe one of these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Battery-Isolator- ... d7ffe42eba Not sure though. |

I must admit the idea of a "hidden" immobiliser has always appealed, especially on the Beige Beast as I had to bash the barrel out of the steering lock as some numpty had snapped a screwdriver in the lock and I have replaced it with a toggle switch and push button start. I have been thinking that the best option would be to interrupt one of the feeds to the coil and link it to a hidden switch under the dash or somewhere of your choosing thats not too obvious. SSD |

When the car is on the street and we are away for the weekend, we usually just disconnect one of the coil leads and put on the handbrake lock.... Not exactly the best way to do it but I suppose it would put a pikey off after it's been cranked a few times... It would wake the neighbors up ![]() Although just up the road from me I know someone who had her 2cv stolen outside a terraced house... She thinks they must have come with a low loader or just towed it away... Never been found either ![]() |

As SSD and James say, the best approach, I think, is to 'interrupt' the supply to the ignition coil - probably best done in the wire from the contact points to the coil. The reason for this is that - if they disable the ignition key - the car will still crank over (making a bit of a racket) but just won't fire up. Any toe-rag will spend a bit of time just cranking, not knowing if it's just a 'poor starter' he's picked on... If you, instead, fit a battery isolator switch - as in the first post - then the whole system will be 'dead' and they'll know something's been done (or it's a completely flat battery). They will then most likely lift the bonnet and could relatively easily take a fresh link from the battery to the starter (and would connecting to the alternator feed the rest of the electrical system?) Once you choose the wire to 'cut', twist and solder the new extension wires to it and feed it back to the cabin using a route already taken by existing wires. Then bind them all together so's it's not obvious that 'new' wires have been added. It would be a tad obvious otherwise! Or, fit a simple 'voltage drop' alarm which will detect any current being drawn from the battery - they're pretty cheap. Or a 'shock' sensor type which should detect physical movement if the car is being 'loaded'. Has anyone here fitted a lock to the bonnet? |

see ive been thinking something like this since i bought poppy.... the slight lack of steering lock due to 2 previous thefts (by the same person when owned by the same woman....) i was thinking more like a direct flicky switch under the dash routed from the live feed to the barrel.... they will turn it once... ignition wouldnt come on... but when they turn it again... it would still crank over, just with no ignition, something as easy as pulling the middle? blue? wire of the barrel does the same..but to a car thief... they'd most likely have pulled the other 2 off and started putting them together to get the ignition on by then... but with a switch under the dash say, going directly into the barrel... there would be power to the starter, but not to the coil, the only slight give away would be when the barrel is turned, no lights/fuel gauge anything that comes on with the ignition would work! |

You're on the right tracks there, Joe. I haven't looked at the 2CV's ignition key wiring, but what you describe certainly applies to most vehicles - I doubt the 2CV is an exception. |

Yes. To look like some sort of security. Can't decide if it is a bit daft for a 2CV though. Have fitted them to a lot of other cars I have owned. |
