I've been tolerating a slow puncture for about six months as the jacking point is just too much rust to trust, however earlier I remembered a friends exhaust jack, sadly I won't be within using distance of this for about three months. I do however have a severe temptation to try using a gym ball and a cheap compressor instead... The ball claims it will cope with a maximum weight of 125kg, which seems with a dose of optimism ok for a back right corner if one were to empty the boot, would however a gym ball of 65cm diameter when inflated sans car ontop be likely to jack the car up high enough to change a wheel? Also what is the chance of it suddenly, and violently deflating? I've spent the day deep in the realms of biochemistry so I doubt its an especially good idea, though the temptation to rush out and try it is horribly great. |

use a high rise jack on the chassis or axle? ive done that when i looked at the standard jack and been scared that it will take most of the sill with it. |

It's an 'interesting' idea, make sure you get it on video camera just in case. ![]() |

What do you do if you have a flat along the road? Put one of these in you're car and use it on the chassis if it's a rear wheel, and directly on the suspension-arm if it's a front wheel: (If you're chassis cant handle it you probably shouldn't be driving the car anyway;)) ![]() That way you don't have to worry about rusty sills. Or buy one of these ![]() |

terpineol, as already advised, best to bin the original jack and use a scissor or bottle jack under your chassis. When changing a rear wheel, positioning the jack below the shock absorber/suspension can carrier bracket rather than below the rear axle will give more rear body lift than if it's sited directly under your rear axle. On the other hand, if entertainment and novelty value are the priorities, bring on that gym ball explosif... ![]() ken |

Sean wrote: thats silly but can i watch from a safe distance? Those exhaust bag jacks actually work very well. So long as your exhaust system is in very good nick, and attached to a car with an engine big enough to inflate it before you die of old age... But, unless there was really no alternative, I'd just be using a trolley or bottle jack... |

yes i know you have to rev the nuts of a 602 but superb on sand or mud where normal jacks just go down and the car stays level ![]() i still want to see a 2cv on a gym ball though ![]() Sean |

It's an excellent idea and don't forget to get your next of kin to send the video to Harry Hill c/o Freepost You've Been Framed. £250 will buy you quite a decent cardboard coffin these days. |
