With the boot box on, water tends to collect in the spare wheel well. There's a little plastic plug thing there but i've never taken it out as its fairly stuck in. Is that a drain hole and if not - am I ok to drill a hole in the floor to let the water drain out providing a put plenty of paint round the hole? Thanks.

Yes Sam, that is indeed a drain hole, just flick the plug out to drain.

I always wondered what those little holes were for, until I saw this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3-eYNAgKWI... look at about 2:20.

If it's plastic then try taking it out? Unlike holes in the front of the car, I'd have said it's better out than in. Mind, no matter where holes are located, they may let in more water than they let out!!

Experiment!

Interesting video. You can almost see them rusting as they go down the production line.

Nice video ....t'is first time I've seen anything like that [is it really 20 years ago :? .....how time flies]
Anyways .... ;)
Now we know what the holes in the boot floor are for .....whats the idea of these .....
Image
I guess that they were originally intended for fastening the old canvas "full length" roof/bootlids down ....[there are two more on the front just above the windscreen, which were used to fasten the roofs on the early Specials] ..... However,I thought that maybe they'd been left there as part of the manufacturing process may have involved lifting the body with them ..... :?
Ideas?Suggestions?Comments? .....

Good question, like you I'd always assumed that they were from the days of the canvas hood down to the numberplate, and I thought it was just something they never got round to cancelling from the design.

However thinking about it the early models with the full lenghth hood had a completely different back panel didn't they, sloping in line with the bodywork. The bootlid came along long before the more modern upright back panel.

I can't see them being used in the manufacturing process on that portugese video, so now its a real mystery why they were even there in the first place on the modern back panel, let alone why they kept making them like that ! :?

As mentioned, they are for attaching externally fixed hoods and Citroen management never bothered to tell the man on the line to stop fitting them. They wouldn't have been used for lifting the body during production, they aren't THAT strong

Still not sure Jonathan, the original early 1950s had a canvas bootlid, part of the roof, with an original angled back panel:

Then the bootlid was added ~1958:

Then later the back panel was replaced with the modern upright design.

So why were the clips ever added to the modern back panel when there never was a 2cv with canvas bootlid and an upright back panel. ??

Please someone out-geek me if there is an explanation.

I know what 2many is going to say - "Its Citroen, all bets are off <shrugs>"

Which is probably the best policy.
