My windscreen surround panel is a bit rusty, or it would be if gaffer tape was prone to rust. How much of a job is it for someone who's a reasonably competent welder to MIG one of these in? Anyone got any hints? The previous owner of the car has fibreglassed up a few holes around the screen and gaffer taped over the bonet hinge, which has all the structural rigidity of wet bread, so I think a complete panel from bonnet hinge to screen top is the best way to go. All advice appreciated.

Never done one, but it looks like a fanny of a job, and I understand the replacement panels are a gash fit. Wiper holes in the wrong position and holes for the electrodes too small. I'm guessing the condition of bulkhead and a panels will come into it as if they are shot you may aswell do those at the same time. Sorry I can't be any help.

I've done half of this job - I unpicked the spot welds then got a pro in to correctly mate up the new panel and weld it in.

It's a long job, and chances are that you'll have rust to deal with both at the top where it meets the bodysides and where it meets the bulkhead. Also, the middle support across the inside might need replacing / fixing too.
