I understand how the rear trailing arms 'bounce' up and down - but how do they 'sway' from side to side - ie. the camber?

Sorry to hi-jack Will but I also have a quick suspension question:

I'd like my car high at the back, lower at the front. If I turn the back up a bit, will that mean when I'm towing/have a car full of gear, she'll sit more level, rather than having the 'Betty' effect?

You're going to have to elaborate here. Rear arms have no adjustment and aside from rotating 'up and down' around the axle there should be no other movement. Camber/toe in/out not adjustable from the factory. Arms can be bent quite happily, as long as you have an old wheel, a welder and a scaffold tube.

i think you can put my post as "dumbest question of the year" - i was thinking about it and looking at the schematics of the suspension system, i realised what a stupid question it was....

i jacked the car up and thought i sensed the wheel moving out a touch as the jack took the final bit of weight of the wheel...but there's no play in the wheel and no noises (trying to solve some outer tread wear)

Hard cornering

Maybe no play in the wheel, but what about the arm bearing? If it's moveing and it isn't the whel bearing, the only thing it can be, i think, is the arm bearing. All I can think of otherwise is axle bolts but I can't see that myself.
