Post Daft gearbox question.
Does anybody apart from me reckon it'll be possible to replace the rear gearbox cover without removing the engine and box?

Lenny,
if you do have a go, park the car facing downhill, maybe drain the oil as well.

Any gear oil seeping from the rear bearings wouldn't be good news for the sealant which is needed when refitting the rear cover.

( Btw, wonder if it's worth placing any bets as to whether the rear nuts on the mainshaft and pinion shaft will be less than tight? ) ;)

Thanks for the advice chaps.

Is changing the cover as straightforward as it looks? Undo a few bolts and off comes the old one, refit those few bolts and new one's on?

(Strange how I don't mind pulling anything else apart but I'm scared shiteless of gearboxes.)

Wouldn't that depend on which hemisphere the car spent its life ;)
