 Best paint & rust proof?
What is the best spray paint to use? I have seen exact match stuff for £30 for a tin of spray paint. Also what is the best rust proof to use after I rub the rusty bits down? I was just going to tart up the rusty bits for the time being. Thanks.

Re: Best paint & rust proof?
For aerosol paints, the best to use are those provided by your local paint factor. That is the place which makes up cans to the exact colour and shade you require. The cans my local chap supplies have a fan shaped spray nozzle which is far superior to the round 'flyspray' nozzles found on cans from your High Street DIY stores.
Anti rust? Presumably you mean Waxoyl or one of the many variants on the market like Dinitrol. Just do a search at the top of this page, read the recommendations and make your own choice.

check out Bilt Hamber products - the rust converting primer is excellent in my view.
cheers

Re: Best paint & rust proof?
I contacted a specialist paint supplier to ask for their advice on the best rust-preventative primer to use on the van.
There's a whole stack of products - the fabled POR15 (horribly expensive if you use the "full system" as they insist you must), heavily zinc-based "cold galvo" paints, and a stack of others.
Their reply was that the cold galvo products were the best on freshly blasted steel, but on "mechanically cleaned" (wire brush in a drill to you & me), they wouldn't adhere properly. They suggested Rustoleum 769. Even better, it's fairly cheap, doesn't cost much extra to be colour-matched to a RAL code, and is perfectly good left as a top-coat.

Re: Best paint & rust proof?
For best anti-rust, I've been cutting back rusty bits to bare metal, then carefully brushing on a bit of Kurust and letting it dry, then spraying zinc undercoat (eg Zinc 182) on top. A few coats of that, letting it all dry nice and slow, then a quick rub down, then top coat from the paint factor shop (£5 or so per 500ml). Job's a goodun. So long as it keeps the rust away I'm not too bothered about having a pristine paint job. That can wait for when I have enough time to strip down the car and renovate it properly (ie never!).

Re: Best paint & rust proof?
£30 seems rather steep, especially as I would need a £30 black one and a £30 yellow one! To be honest though I am not sure what or how to find a paint factor shop.

Re: Best paint & rust proof?
type "car paint" into Google. I just did it, and a map came up... the best local one for me (Bham) is Jawel, and they came up at entry no. 1. Should work for you.
