Post subject:  CB Aerial Mounting - Vans

Hi,

I have tried various mounts for my CB aerial, small magmount on cab roof, not great as van blocks it and wire and mag mark paint work, gutter mounts will have the same issue. cant mag mount the roof due to ripples.

Where have others mounted theirs? Do i really have to put a hole in the roof to have a decent mount? is there much panel flex when the meter long pole wobbles about? strengthening plates? I dont want to trash my vans roof if i can help it! pics, info, suggestions etc welcome.

cheers

TIM

Could you make a mount in the front bumper?

I had my first cb whip mounted above the back doors on the acadiane. made a hell of a din when i hooned into a multi-storey car park. Can't tell you what the performance was like though.

I've tried mag-mounting an aerial on the flat panel next to the rear doors on my van. Was fine until a big truck overtook and then it fell off. So I'm open to ideas too!

I have a plastic bonet louis! not magnetic... cab roof was ok but wire rubs paint badly in the wind, looked abit bodge and only people infront get a clear version of what i'm broadcasting, van blocks to the rear...

Paul, mobiles while driving... tut tut! CB = license kept!

I had an AKS400 that had had one mounted on the front of the raised part of the rear body above the cab, my AZU has one mounted on the cab roof , i gave the cb aerial itself back to the previous owner but have left the connecting stub as it doubles as a radio aerial , still dont like the potential flex of the roof steel there, although the radio aerial is only about 18 inches, and the cb one wasnt much more.
I've ripped the cb gear out, bar an awkward lead going up the door channel that i need to de-wire the connector to,so have one going cheap if anyone wants it :D

You're assuming he's not using a hands-free of some kind... (Do France even have a "no phoning whilst driving" law?)

The front-of-box pressing on Acads actually has a little boss and a pre-drilled hole for a radio aerial there. It's almost visible in this hyoooge pic...
