Post clamps
I seem to recall reading about quick-release cross box clamps - perhaps used by racers? I may have dreamt/made this up as i can't remember where i read it, or even find any info on them...

any ideas, gang?

While I know nothing of ones used in practice, you could make one by replacing the bolts in the exhaust clamps with the quick release mechanism from a bicycle seat stem collar I would have thought.

I seem to recall Mark Lewis has got 'em on his 4x4. They "hinge" at one end, with a retaining bolt on the other, on a ball joint. Slacken, pivot, unclamp. Quick, easy. Not cheap...

Neil,
they're hinged on one side, with a single bolt (or stud and nut) to tighten the clamp.
Paul at Tower Citroen, Retford would know where to get them.
Do you have his number or do you want me to give him a call?

Ken

Many years ago I found a similar item on a Visa engine in a Leeds scrapyard, which I've kept for use when fitting exhausts. That one's stainless steel and was originally an item of laboratory equipment, so I've been told... ;)

I'd love to get hold of a set of these too. I seem to recall the Racehire 70 car had them fitted at one point, either way they are proper handy.

thanks Ken. When i come to replace the cross box i'll give him a bell. I must say last time i did a cross box i used the cast steel clamps from Burton & they were the poodles privates, although of course they aren't quick release...

The cast Burton clamps, 47mm and 49mm are in stock at a strange, sometimes friendly 2cv parts specialist in Staffordshire, same price as Burton too!
