Will, is it M28 or M4 you're running? Also what gearbox are you using?

no engine should have that sort of variation between the two barrels whether or not its old or has valve stem seals or not. Either one side seems very high or the other broken ring low

and at 125psi for an M28 will have oil P**sing everywhere

suggestion for swapping out the dicky one was because i get the feeling Will uses it as an everyday runner, now id quite happily strip and re build an engine of an evening but would be happier to put it on the bench and work in comfort. Also, would not be happy opening up an engine with a range of possible faults if i needed it for work the next day....sods law dictates the bit you need will have to be ordered in and it'll snow as soon as you crack the head nuts( which has just happened to me - will i make space in the workshop? nah itll be fine wont take long :lol: )

Hi

It's an M28 out of a 1978 Dyane - the original M4 is in dry storage with plenty of oil in it.

Box is the original tin-top 220mm vented drums one that Rick re-built last year.

It's actually running pretty well really - i do indeed use it daily, it's my only car.....just as i intended when i bought it. as you all know, why not!!! it's cheap as chips!!! and such a great drive....

Ok in that case, you might find that the gearbox ratios are not quite right for that engine and your top speed might not be what you'd expect from a Dyane or Ami 8.

You might find a standard 2CV engine M28/1 (having slightly lower compression) will give you a better 4th gear performance.

If you are thinking about overhauling the engine you have in there, depending on how bad what you have is, you might be able to improve things with new rings, followed check of the valves and seats.
