My '85 Special needs 4 new tyres as the current ones are low on tread & the sidewalls are cracking badly and the MOT's coming up shortly.
Trouble is that 125 or 135x15 tyres are getting rarer and consequently more expensive. What make & size do you guys habitually fit and what do you do about getting the best deal?

I run 135 toyos. Pretty good and at around £35 each off Mytyres dot com they aren't bad value (you'll need to add whatever fitting your local tyre place charges) Previous to that I tried Mabors, again quite grippy and they didn't wear too bad.
Or Michelin 135's if I'm feeling rich (rarely)

All are available from ECAS currently I think.

I have had M&S style 145s from here and toyos at one point i think... good service and IIRC free delivery. then take them to your friendly fitter balancer and tada!

I've had Toyo's on 2 A-series now and have found them to be pretty good. They seem to wear well, although i'm not sure the grip is all that. But as Will says, for the money they're a good all rounder.

I think Mabors are cheaper than Toyo's now. Pretty sure Nankang have some budget tyres available in 135 flavour...

I've got four mabors on my car - seem pretty good, more grip than the firestone/uniroyal mix I had on before. But that might be just that I hoon a little more with the new chassis etc. Bought a set of four from ECAS.

This is very true! I'd love to be able to buy X's for all my cars, but at nearly 300 notes for a set, i can put up with the cheaper brands! ;)

I'd go for michelins every time, I'm poor, but they are the best, i always find the other brands just dont last as long and don't grip as well as a mich.

True.

Michies last so long on a 2CV that the sidewalls crack before they're worn out!

Please see my original post. I've got two Michs on mine. They've both got good tread but the tread is trying to part company with the carcass!
I'd definitely have Michs if money were no object, but it is!
As it happens, I may have dropped on a set of Maxxis 135s for 120 quid the set. No idea what the tread looks like but as I understand it they're a budget tyre made by Dunlop?
