hi guys, replaced the clutch in my van couple of week ago, as the bearing was noisy (kill 2 birds with one stone). the bearing had a bit of wear on it but had mainly worn the fingers away. clutch plate was fine, looked quite new. having done all of this its been fine until now, the bearing is noisy again, i cant possibly have worn it already surely?! i dont ride the clutch or sit in traffic with it in gear. is it a case of just adjusting it or have i a problem elsewere?

Your van is a late 602 engine and discs isn't it?

It's an '82 Dyane engine and late disc 'box........

Is it a coil spring clutch or diaphragm type?
I'm guessing the latter, as you say that it's worn the fingers away, in which case I wonder if you're allowing enough free play.
There should be 20 to 25mm at the pedal...

i have no idea how much play there is, the clutch was adjusted once fitted and felt fantastic, what is supposed to have the play? is the bearin too tight? if so is it wearin the fingers because its touching slightly?!

The free play is measured at the pedal.
Most accurate way to check it is to depress the pedal with your hand, when there should be the specified amount of movement before _any_ resistance is felt.

As the clutch plate wears, the free play is lost, so the bearing is then constantly under load and will wear out much faster than it should...

Are you sure you're identifying this correctly?

Does the noise start when you press the clutch pedal - or does it disappear at that time?

If the latter, then the noise is related to gearbox bearings.

no, only when the clutch is down, if i lift it up just before it bites, it goes quietish, i shall have to do some play measuring in the morning before work, if it is wrong do i just adjust the clutch or do i have to adjust something deeper down the engine bay?

Did you fit a new bearing? Sometimes they are noisy and you can't do anything about it.
