 Electric cabin heater
Not really technical I know. But does anybody know if these plug in cabin heaters are absolute crap or not? Those plug in 12 ones.

 Re: Electric cabin heater
The 2cv alternator is 30 amp if I recall. 30amp x 14v = 420 watts
So, anything above 420W is going to start draining the battery (less actually, as the cars system has needs). And you don't really want the alt to be working at full amps, as they are not designed to do that. turn on the headlights (2x60W), and you only have about 300w available. Ignition coil. indicators, brake lights!
2CV heating is usually adequate when working correctly!

 Re: Electric cabin heater
Thanks Roger! Yes I was worried about the drain. I also have a car stereo, add in windscreen wipers and there's so little spare isn't there.

My neighbour build a large audio system in his capri. He used it in front of the door and was not able to get the car started after a short while.

 Re: Electric cabin heater
I read that a heated seat matt helps with heating the body direclty and making you feel confortable at the expense of much less power.
I buyed a fan for the heater tubes, pending to be installed, cannot give you feedback by now.

 Re: Electric cabin heater
Other trick hang a thick plastic sheet on the middle roof crosmember down to the the floor behind the front seats. Than you only have to heat half the cabin.. I did the same in my Berlingo it worked very well.

 Re: Electric cabin heater
Haha those fuel powered ones are amazing. I wish, lol..
Heated seat mat could be an idea. Although really it's just the windscreen I'm bothered about. I did consider a heated one when I was refitting my windscreen, but apparently they can't tolerate any moisture around the edges at all. I did a really leak free job but I Want couldn't see how it would be possible for it to stay that dry there.
Those in line fans are such a great idea! But my normal heating is without pipes because sometimes stinky.
