i'm not sure about these type of muffs they must be for extreme conditions and stop the air flow compleatly

they do look pretty cool tho

these should be open in the middle, and can be fitted on the grille with the three bars:

2cvs from the first ripples through to 1974 & the inception of the plastic grille had canvas grille muffs - most were made from the same material as used on 2cv/Dyane hoods. They can be rolled up if desired to increase airflow. Early Dyane's, Ami's, H vans etc used canvas muffs too.

Harry,
the full cover doesn't block air flow around the engine completely, as the fan is still perfectly capable of drawing air from the space between the grille and the engine...
What the grille muff is doing is removing the extra 'wind chill' factor produced by forward motion of the car.
( Many years ago, I managed to shred the leg of a pair of overalls, after leaning over an engine and revving it up when the metal grille wasn't in place. :( )
