Post windscreen removal
Any hints or tips appreciated on how to remove a screen from an acad without breaking it?
In the past I've always managed to crack them which hasn't worried me too much as the screen was being replaced anyway, but I just want to do a few repairs under the rubber and with a new screen being nearly £100  from ecas I wanted to try and refit the existing one, coz i'm a tight yorkshireman ;)

Buy just the rubber.

Then cut old rubber away with stanley or similar and hey presto :) :)

OK so new rubber is about 40 quid i think BUT it seems easier to spend that than risk cracking another screen.

Hope that helps :)

AH, just noticed ECAS out of stock of rubbers on their own.

In that case, lots of helping hands peeling back the rubber all along and gentle pressure and then some luck.

Im SO helpful arent I?

(whats that NO i hear you shout)

Umm,
rather than destroying the windscreen rubber or risking injury by pushing the screen out with your feet, wouldn't it be easier to adopt a more conventional method of removal?

Using a blunt flat-bladed screwdriver* and working in small steps, ease the inner section of the seal past the metal surround so that it's trapped on the other side of the surround.
The first few centimetres are always the most difficult, so it's worth being patient...
Start near a top corner and work all the way along the top edge towards the other corner, then work around the top corners.
By the time they're free and you're working down the sides, the whole assembly will usually have started tilting forwards out of the windscreen aperture all by itself. ;)

( *If you're worried about scratching or marking the glass if the screwdriver should slip, wrap the business end with tape.
Alternatively, a piece of hardwood can be sharpened. )

I'm pretty sure I've got a spare Dyane screen, Graham. I don't have a Dyane any more, so I'd sell it - for some money, but a lot less than a new one - to you if it all goes wrong.
