Anyone got any ideas why our 1.3 engined Dyane is leaking like a seive into the footwell? The roof is new, the wiper spindles appear OK but it seems to leak around the screen rubber...anyone else had this problem and if so how did you cure it? Can the screen sit too high up in the seal and not make a good watertight seal? At sometime the screen has been out and turnes around as there are windscreen arcs on the inside - could this be an issue? Cheers SSD

Honest answer..............

I know your 1300 dyane is a nice car but if all your other points are definitly not leaking chances are that beneath the screen rubber you have missing metal and rust, leading to leakage.

In my experience its very rarely the roof that lets in leaks, unless in very very severe wind (assuming it fits well)

Wiper spindles as you say, have you taken the wiper arms off and waggles the spindles up down and in and out to make sure no movement?

Not what you want to hear, but my money is on screen surround being frilly.

Seconded. The surround in Matt's Acad looked passable from the outside, just some brown staining on the paint, until we got the glass out. The inside was a bit worse, but it didn't give much clue as to how bad - there was nothing left of the bottom of the surround, inside or outside.

The first real clue we had was when the wiper motor stopped mid-sweep. Because there was a big bit of steel (well, steel oxide) wedged into the armature.

When we started to look at it more closely, it turned out that the shelf had rotted out completely from the leaks.

Is the windscreen on a dyane/acadiane the same shape as a 2cv? (sorry for hijacking)

The Dyane 'screen is a fair bit larger.

Cheers guys - I'll have a look when Mike is next home but knowing the amount of work that had been done on the car in its previous owners hands I doubt if that is the the root of it. Last time I tried chasing the leak down I seem to recall a lot of water in the actual screen area with water around the bottom of the glass as it sat in the seal....SSD
