The guy who sold it to me wasn't a specialist and was very happy to get £100. I asked if he would end the auction early for that price and he did. I would have let it run - but perhaps he needed the cash quickly.

Thanks for the tip - it will be very handy to have someone who knows the supercharger and its original application rather than working blind.

Nice one BJ!

The Vivio had the smaller AMR 300, 300cc displacement per rev. They are quite common here in Aus. In fact some one else here in Aus bought one just today for their 2cv!
If you want an AMR 300 or the larger 500 I can post one to you.
There are 6 AMR500 on ebay atm

Looking forward to see now this progresses 8-)

Yes - it's a good score ;-) Having been looking for something suitable for ages.

I knew that Australia was an alternative source for the Aisins - but I didn't know you were there. Prices in those adverts are still relatively high but vastly cheaper than a new Eaton M24 or similar. There is a dealer in the USA selling them but he wants over $1000 USD for a refurbed one.

I'm happy with what I've got at the price - would have prefered the Aisin but if this can't be made to fit I think I can sell it at a profit and put it towards an AMR 500. I may take up your offer then.

Engine mount modification from the 4x4 bois.

Bit of a Diversion from the 4x4.
Broke three engine mounts in France, they are not designed to take a lot of abuse.

Fabricated a Heavy Duty Version.
Bits, Bush is from Citroen/Peugeot (Thanks to LB)

Will fit in the same way as a standard Mount, but if the bush fails the engine wont move to far.

Pete,
some other solutions, both of which I've used successfully on 2CV racers.

Drill though the middle of a standard engine mount so that an M6 bolt and nyloc nut can be fitted, tightened so that the rubber is just starting to be compressed.
Once installed with the engine's weight on it, it has no effect on the mount's isolation characteristics, but will prevent it being overloaded in tension.

The other method is to bind the middle section of the mount with strong nylon twine, with the knot on the top side so that it's clamped securely when the mount is bolted to the engine.
This will act in the same manner as the bolt and nut setup, however the MOT tester may be asking some questions. ;)

Ken

I like those.

Just about to rill nipples into my rack... How can grease get to the bearing if this is the point that the retaining nut sits against the bearing housing?

surely once it is tightened then you need to drill a small hole through the nut?

Cheers,

Harley

Put the nut in WITHOUT the seal, tighten till its near full torque.
Mark nut with a small 3mm drill, remove nut, carefully grind (Dremel) a passage for the grease < 1mm.
Assemble again, with seal, try grease, grease will have gone through bearing.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the explanation re; greasable pinion Pete

I can see how the grease can get in and/or out of the wheel side drilling, but with the retaining ring side you run into the same problem as the pinion... is it the same method to torque it up, mark, remove, groove, replace? or will it just squeeze past the seals without the bolt with 3mm hole drilled in it?

Cheers again!

Hi Harley,

When the hub nut is fully torqued, there will be no clearance between the nut and the hub bearing.

You need to put a grove/gap in the large nut, same method as the pinion, but more trial and error.

Without the groove/gap (low pressure) the grease won't go through the bearing.

Using a high-pressure grease gun, without the exit hole it's possible to blow/damage the seals.

Cheers
Peter

Thanks for the info Pete,
Another query...

I see there is nothing to stop the grease from pushing into the large cavity in between the two arm bearings.
Despite this would it still be useful to place another 8mm bolt with 3mm exit hole on the opposing side of the grease nipple, in the same plane as you outlined in the diagram above?

Cheers,

Harley

Like..
I found that all the dirt water collects at the bottom of arm, thought about putting the nipple there, but its a bit exposed. Perhaps just near the base.
 Sleeve/Tube to fill the cavity?
