If it behaved even remotely similarly with only three dampers to with a full set of four, then your dampers are absolutely shagged out.

When I had the broken one still on the drive was terrible, and even the drive home felt rubbish with the one that fell off. You can feel the back of the car behaving like jelly, it just wobbles up and down!!!

Thanks Russ for the offer of sending me one :) I've bought a few becxause for some reason all my shocker bolts have different sized heads so I need 2 different spanners :?

I'm gonna replace them all with new ones so they all take a 13mm socket.

i believe many such instances have been reported back.

City were not the only ones to use bolts like this, wheels, frome etc all used a similar system. City though is the only chassis still in production to use this menthod of fastening the shocks. My old red 2CV FiFi snapped a bolt in her chassis this way.

I must say, I have a galv. chassis under my car, I've owned it since April 2002, and I've covered 120,000+miles in it. This situation is new to me, I've never experienced it with my car. Maybe I'm lucky, or maybe the construction is different. Don't ask me what make chassis it is though, :? I've no idea.

I wouldn't and didn't. The chances of it happening again now that Sam's aware it can happen are almost nil. I just popped over to Silly CVs and was given another bolt. Actually the car behaved pretty well with one of the damper bolts missing.

I'm aware that night follows day. Does that mean it won't happen again?

I must admit, I was struggling with Paul's logic there. But I couldn't think of such a succinct way to put it. :)

you could postulate that the car normaly behaves as badly as it would on 3 shockers cause its a whippy chassis

but i wont :P ;)

And to be fair its not just aftermarket chassis, Ive known of one case where a citroen pin had sheared, suspect exsess heat was used to remove the pin from one chassis was used, and then the pin was torqued with a 6'scaffold pole so it was as tight as when it came out

This AK 400 snapped due to too much weight + driving too fast off road (Raid Australia 2008) It was welded back on and the AK completed the raid no worries
