Post Re: MOT incompetent tester.
I'll be bringing my 2CV back to Worcester for it's MOT in September as I'm not sure if I could trust it to the local Shetland MOT station. By the way, the islands of Yell, Unst and Fetlar don't have an MOT station between them, so provided I don't take the car to Mainland, I won't need an MOT.

I take my to my local Just MoTs centre. They don't know about 2cvs, but they do appreciate it's an old car.

I stay well away from "2cv friendly" garages for 2 reasons. Some of them know the cars a little too well and know exactly where to go looking for trouble  . On the other hand, some of them are clearly blind and wear rosy spectacles and I do prefer my cars to be safe, not just MoTd!

An MoT test(er) is either honest - in which case he has a difficult job at times, deciding whether or not to pass or fail marginal cases - or dishonest, in which case passing or failing will be a matter of whatever rules he happens to be playing by.

But deliberately taking an old Cit to a testing station where they don't know anything about them is not what I would ever choose to do. Your life may depend on a sharp-eyed tester who knows his stuff. 'Looking for trouble' is partly what an MoT is about, and when driving a 2cv hard on a winding road, I don't fancy something letting go just as a big truck is about to pass.

I once sent my 2cv to a place which knew about the cars, they failed it on what I considered daft stuff at the time, but on reflection they were right. The cars may be from the 1940s, but modern traffic and roads just aren't.
