Hey Joe, where can you get Michelins for £70 ? Cheapest is ECAS at £95, or you can go to The Vintage Tyre Co. and pay £100. I'd love to know who sells them for £70

 Re: Tyres!
I've got Nangkangs on the 2cv and they're doing fantastic. Put the front ones on about 18 months ago and the rear ones at reg day last year. No problems at all and still loads of tread on them. I run them 26psi rear and 24psi front, but as they're wider I figured that was ok. I tow a lot too so need the umph at the rear. Mehari's still on 3 of its original Firestones (or original at least in time it's been in the family so 23 years) I love it at reg day how over the weekend the price of tyres slowly drops as 2cvCity and Ecas try to undercut each other

 Re: Tyres!
I've got Nankangs on the front of Chloe (the block-patterned ones) and Toyos on the back. The Toyos have been on the back since I got her on the road, so getting on for 30K, and have still got about 2-3mm tread left on them. The Nankangs I replaced last month had been on for about 25K, and would have lasted a fair bit longer if I'd either fixed the kingpins sooner or turned them over halfway through! I reckon they're the only "cheap" tyre that looks right...

 Re: Tyres!
Right then gang, 'Camac' 135's anyone know anything about 'em? I'm guessing they're pretty old. I've got a chance of 5 - 1 new & 4 barely run. I had them on the front of a Mi*i i owned briefly years ago & i'm sure i've had one as a spare on a 2cv before. A quick bit of 'googling' and it would seem that they no longer produce tyres - maybe they're now knocking out bathroom suites or summat?
They're pretty cheap & i'm sure i can get them cheaper, but i'm concious of the fact that Toyo's weigh in at under £29 a corner.

Im pretty sure Camac are cheapo budget tyres if I remember rightly they sometimes go out of shape and the wire beads break up and it feels like your wheel is amazingly out of balance untill you realise there is loads of wire hanging out in 1 patch but we are finding this quite rarely with some Michelins and Goodyear tyres nowadays though. Never driven with them so I cant tell you how they handle and again, if i remember correctly, they dont last long. But if they are cheap enough Neil, go for it!

 Re: Tyres!
I'd go for a set of 4 Toyo or Mabors instead, admittedly, you pay a slightly higher price and get one tyre less, but I would imagine the Camacs have been sitting idle for years and are probably hard and going to crack up if they havent already started to.
I'd sooner have one michelin than 4 camacs!

 Re: Tyres!
I'd probably pay the little extra and go for Toyo's, which will be brand new so free of any potential hardness/cracking and they really do stick to the road like baby poo to a blanket, or at least the set on Evie does. Plus the tread pattern looks quite cool, again imo

 Re: Tyres!
Neil, all of the Camacs which I bought some years back had to be binned long before the tread wore out. The problem was that the sidewalls started cracking and this happened regardless of whether the car they were fitted to was lightly loaded or heavily loaded. Go for Toyos, then you can pass those onto the race mob when they're almost worn out. No more 145 Michys and Firestones for the racers next year from what I've gathered, because Toyo decided they'd like to play.. ken.

 Re: Tyres!
Can anyone get hold of the Nangkang M+S tyres, which in fact were a decent all weather tyre, similar in shape to the orig Mich 135 X. If anyone has an odd one, new or almost, I'd be interested... Don't like the current crop of Toyo-like Nangkangs. Don't like Toyos or Firestones, the latter in part. give the steering a v hard time when on the front. Used to be awful in the wet, last time I used any... : evil: Plus they'd wear in no time. BTW, don't people find that cars with harder sidewall/wider tyres on the back have a propensity to oversteer in extremis, as the car rolls the tyre off its tread? Nothing comes close to Mich, imh. Price getting silly tho'. Minimal contact patch for straight line driving, more tread on the road the more braking/cornering force is applied. Once broke a diff bearing on a GS under v. heavy braking from 90+, avoiding a tractor without lights.
