Re: New 2CV owner seeking some advice.
Quote: Absolutely. I think there might be a tad too much presumption going on here - fact is, we clearly have no idea what this car is like; it could be a very fine example.
I'd be very surprised (disappointed) if the heavy steering was down to lack of greasing or badly set up steering geometry. I suspect it's more likely a case of comparison with a heavily power-steered Ford Ka. I hope this is a good example; to my (untrained) eye, the only visible thing wrong with it is a list to starboard. Presumably, tired suspension. I don't know if that can be compensated for with the height adjustment or whether I'll need to buy new suspension. I'm paying Sean a visit tomorrow, so hopefully, he'll put me straight (or, with luck, put the 2CV straight. ) Quote: I'm not suggesting for a moment that beerbunny's chassis is bent. I haven't noticed anything that suggests the chassis is bent; apart from anything else, it's a new galvanised one, made on the premises in a jig, according to Mr 2CV City. Quote: The OP is clearly new to 2CVs, and I didn't want him becoming paranoid about what he'd bought, regardless of where it was bought from. OP? Thanks for the thought, Devil's Advocate. I don't think I'm at the paranoia stage yet, but I am getting very nervous about what Sean might tell me tomorrow. Quote: as regards your 'heavy steering' I had the same problem on my series 2 Airportable Landrover due to the thin steering wheel, fitting a decent steering wheel cover made the steering much more manageable by giving me something a bit thicker to grip. That may well be the case; I mentioned in an earlier post that I'm finding the steering wheel uncomfortably thin. The solution is probably, as you suggested, a cover. Do Halfords still sell that sort of thing? If not, where can I get one, does anybody know? I will get pictures posted soon, promise. Cheers, John PS, although I've switched on the 'Notify me when a reply is posted', I haven't had any notification for the last half-dozen or so posts. Anybody got any idea why?

It doesn't seem to have been mentioned, but if the suspension hight is lower then normal in front, the steering will be heavier than normal. Lower front suspension height = heavier steering.

I doubt anything is wrong. You've been used to a modern car and a 2CV can feel weird compared to anything modern till you get used to it. In fact, it's unlike any other motorcar in history. Drive it, enjoy it and welcome to the 'club'.

Re: New 2CV owner seeking some advice.
I know it's fashionable to give Tony a bit of a kicking and I'd always sooner my parts came from ECAS than 2cvCity despite living down the road from Hali...(Bradford now). But to put the OP's mind at rest a little, mother has had a 2cvCity rebuild for about five years and even then it'd been a couple of years since it was done and other than tatty wings, a randomly unattaching shock absorber and the occasional king-pin needing doing it has been really reliable and is in still pretty good shape. Obviously the chassis is a bit OTT but the body itself is still sound and the floors are 100%. mum prefers that stupid little steering wheel too . Pete (sticking to his rusty non-restored Dyane)

Nobody kicks anybody because it's fashionable Pete, People knock their cars because of thier experiences with them.

Okay, maybe but on the whole the car mum had off them hasn't been too bad & there's a few in our club who run their cars. Yeah a lot of people have had an issue along the way somewhere but their cars aren't the death traps we can sometimes make them out to be.

Re: New 2CV owner seeking some advice.
I've got a smaller steering wheel and it doesn't make too much difference. Weirdly, I rekon the Mehari has the heaviest steering... could be a false impression though, or that fact its at a ridiculous angle!
