Post Re: Spare wheel or not?
I found that when I had a spare wheel on the bonnet the washer was a bit useless as when driving what came out was blown all over the place by the turbulence caused by the wheel. Still I had no issues driving with a grubby windscreen...

That's easy enough to do as well,

Lots of people have tried to copy the Sahara bonnet and few have succeeded in making a good job. though I have seen a few. It also makes your already flimsy bonnet very heavy and very wobbly when open on its thin little bonnet prop.

Beefing up the prop is easy enough to do though.

Not so. The original "ripple bonnet" is a much stronger unit to begin with, has side bits and is made from steel not biscuit tin.

I beefed up my bonnet by bolting two lengths of dexion across the bonnet under the spare wheel. It wasn't an elegantly engineered solution, but it worked. :)

Most of the spare bonnets I've had that have been useless were so because the hinge had come away due to fatigue, the spare mounted upon it will surely accelerate this?

unless you make some sort of slightly more sturdy version up and beef it all up, maybe even proper hinges?
