Post Re: ICE.
I'm running 6x9s and a sub from my amp but when volume is turned up loud it gets to a point when the 6x9s get distorted from the bass. I've seen Russell said somewhere about bass filters (but can't find it) and i can't find anything on the net that fits inline from amp to speakers, is there another name for these bass filters?

Crossovers.

I don't think that's the whole story though, I don't think your 6x9s sound half as good as they would in boxes or in a solid shelf. I'm guessing you have a 4ch amp with a bridged channel for the sub? You should be able to adjust the frequency range of the front or rear channels on the amp. I reckon you should put your 6x9s in boxes, or a shelf then you can set the amp up accordingly. I sat out in the middle of nowhere, turned it up as far as it would go with the gain turned right down, then turned the gain up until the amp just started to clip the sound (distorting). I then did the same for the rear channel that runs my sub. That will leave your system able to run as loud as it can. If it still distorts, then you need to turn the gain down a little, although you might be able to stop it by adjusting the crossovers on the amp so the speakers play a smaller range of frequencies that they can cope with. In line crossovers and bass filters are available, but if you don't have them on your amp, you probably want to think about a better amp. My jbl amp was about £45ish on eBay, well worth that. I'll try and find those speaker boxes for 6x9s I used to have, you'll find yours sounds much better with them ;-)

I got mine from halfords last time i got any. 1for blockin treble on sub n 2 for blockin bass on speakers. Just frequency blockers as far as i know. Work ok but better to mount speakers properly n adjust levels to suit. I run only bass through the sub. Speakers r without n only 4 volume.

Your probably right there, they are just cable tied to the roof bar haha!

don't know what channel my amp is, i can run speakers and sub - it's got built in crossover and 1200 amp so i'll try adjusting the levels as per your instructions and see if i can get some better sounds (preping for FN init) 8-)

I'll dig the boxes out dude, if you're happy with that? It'd be a massive help! If not I'll just stick the standard arms back on.
