I've got a couple of broken ones, but they don't work.

I can definitely see the appeal of Jasu's solution, even now we do have alternatives readily available. I would expect those Bosch components to be fairly bombproof, and it's definitely cheap enough.

Ducellier components were just as reliable, back in the 1980s, even though the base plate was made from an old road sign.

The current version seems to be working fine, with close to 100,000 miles racked up on the prototype during the last 5 years.
Laser cut base plates now, though... ;)
