Post Re: Rear wheel hand brake
that piece of H&S from the man that wanted to cable tie a block of wood under the brake pedal of a race car to stop them using it till we had finished fixing it  *

i was just going to suggest to Russ blanking off the front system with an M8 bolt

* that was one of the best things "ever" Ron telling our glam racing driver who had never driven a 2cv before that " you have to go out and do a night qualifying - its not like any car you've ever driven before so forget it. Oh and the brakes have been disconnected so dont touch the pedal - but good news its started raining so you wouldn't need the brakes anyway"

And direct the fluid from the front into the reservoir hole, and the pipe to the rear brakes from the single brake pipe union? I wonder if anybody has a used ami8 single circuit cylinder they'd like to sell me?

Thanks Ken - knew you would have the amswer - why did Citroen change to LHM when they changed to discs - is more stable? higher boiling point? I bet there are lots of people who have mistakenly put the wrong fluid in when just topping up the level..

its surprisingly common even the Synthetic silicone - "safe for all" fluid ruin's lhm seals. That was the mistake that race team had made causing the rear shoes to bind - wasnt till i spotted that it was taking 4 people to push the car accross the garage that it clicked why the engine was down on power and had screwed up one gearbox. So a night of total brake system renewal was undertaken by ken and me-after disconecting the rear brakes for qualifying.

there is no way round it if you use LHM components you must use LHM. rinsing the system with white spirit or filling up with silicone doesnt help despite loads of testimonials that its fine.

I had never heard of LHM until our first ever race at Silverstone, I used decent racing brake fluid in the race car and wondered why after the first race I had a real HARD brake pedal and not very good brakes - I think it was Hollis Motorsport you came to the rescue with new rear brake cylinders and Neil Thompson who helped to fit and flush the system for us - we really did not know anything about the mechanics of the car then :o

yup John stood there "But its the best racing fluid- they use it in NASCar!"

"But your not in a nascar -Its a 2cv" - was the pithy reply

best 24 hrs yet for entertainment.
