Interesting, but would never advise anyone to knock screwdriver through tight oil filter  ,well known bodge, but can bend threaded retaining bolt and make new filter leak around the seal :)

I wasn't advising just suggesting ;)
I wouldn't do it unless I HAD to!
For every job there's a tool

Anyone used this?

Guys i finally get the strobe work . So for get this straight . When idle you have to see the first mark ( the one which has been marked with the drill at the hole ) and under accelerating you have to see the other one which is 8 tooth anticlockwise ?

Did i understood it well ?

i saw this video i think yesterday . Do i have to see both of the marks lined up or only the dynamic one.

I mean on this video i cant see the static mark but only the second one. If i fixed this on the second one i cant see the static mark.

Pavlos,
here's another video.

The static mark ( at 8* ignition advance) should move to the left, so that the full advance mark ( at approx 33*) lines up with your reference point.

If you mark the flywheel like this, it's easier to determine what's going on with the ignition advance mechanism.

ken

so when the car is idling i shouldnt be able to see the first mark.... and when i am accelerating then i must see the 8th mark on the flywheel ?

did i get it right ?

pavlos,
you should have a reference mark on the engine, opposite the mark made for 8* when the 6mm pin is in the flywheel.

When using the strobe, those two marks should line up at tickover, then the marks on the flywheel appear to move to the left ( anti-clockwise) as the engine speed is increased.
At 'around' 3,000 to 3,500 rpm, that movement should stop, at which point the mark on the 7th should line up.

The 'full advance' setting is much more important than the 'static / tickover' setting, since an error in the ignition timing at full power or speed will soon cause damage, whereas there's no chance of this happening at tickover.
At tickover, the engine may only be producing 1/4 hp, just enough to keep it turning over.
At full power, it should be making around 28 bhp (21Kw).

Ken,
You really cannot have 8* at 850rpm tickover can you?
I always get around 12*. :?
Is it normal?
