 Re: Oil light its not sufficiantly charging? maybe turn the reg up a bit?

Re: Oil light I'm kinda glad you said that I've been debating wether to pull the alternator off or not, I've only done it nice before for similar reasons that turned out to be brushes

Re: Oil light rebel, to check if the regulator is the source of this problem, you can bypass it _temporarily_. To do that, you can use a length of insulated wire which is long enough to reach between the main terminal on the starter motor and the alternator. It needs a female blade connector on one end and a crocodile clip on the other end. Remove the lead which is plugged into the blade connector on the back of the alternator and replace it with that length of wire, connecting the other end to the starter motor with the crocodile clip. With the engine running and the voltmeter connected between the battery posts, keep watching the voltmeter whilst gradually increasing the engine speed above tickover. Note that you _must_ return the engine to tickover speed as soon as the voltmeter reading rises above 15 volts. On the other hand, if the voltmeter stays below 12 volts, the fault lies inside the alternator, only the brushes if you're lucky...  ken
