I've decided a little sub like this doesn't weigh very much!

If you want I can take more pics or the frame and measure it up for those who want to make one.

Pictures and dimensions would be great. I have a copper frame in my Zebra but i replaced the airfilter with a cone to get it fit flat so any ideas for the van would be useful.

Thanks

You will find a flap on the side of the van for your spare wheel and the jack fits in there too ;)

This spare wheel thing under the bonnet !

Well I am completly with Russ here, cant see it makes any difference with weight, none at all. However if you can stick the spare under the bonnet then you have a good storage space in the boot for tools, spares etc and a nice free space for all the other crap.

I know Julien Ford came up with a good design for under bonnet wheel storage, dont know if he got the production going. But it does work under there and I reckon I might give it a go too.

Anyone got and tips or thoughts on making a frame and putting wheel under bonnet ?

On the 4x4 with the boot floor chopped out there is no space for the spare hence the spare under the bonnet. I'll take some pics and measurements on Thursday and post them so those who want to make a frame can.

I've got the under bonnet wheel on the red one so my sub (same as justins) can sit in the wheel well.

Berlingo has a full size spare which is good as I'm not a fan of spacesaver spares either.

Spacesavers are a ridiculous idea. If you do have a puncture, you're going to need to find space inside your car for a full size wheel, which will be absolutely filthy.

Why not stick the spare wheel on the bonnet of your 2CV? I used an old jack base as a washer, bolted through the bonnet, then bolted the spare wheel to that through the centre hole. You'd need to weld some strengthening ribs to the underneath of the bonnet (I bolted two lengths of Dexion across it). It frees up a lot of extra space in the boot and looks very cool into the bargain, although it probably wouldn't suit a nice shiny car. :)

That's easy enough to do as well, I just preferred the look of it sat on top of the bonnet. :D
