slighty different idea... how about cleaning up and using some decent rust convertor and leading the area with one of those frost kits still need to cover and wax coat the rear of the panel but it would last longer than filler
ive not tried the lead kits they do but ive seen it being used and its quite simple adn looks not too hard to use just remember to wear a face mask when your filing / sanding it off

As for the lead, is that what they used to call 'lead loading' in the days of classics?

I like the idea of using that - would you use rust converter BEFORE the soldering though? Cheers....Will
