Joe the jack handle should be fine many people use it, its only going to be a one off event the fan being this stuck cause once its off its going to be a regularly maintained.......isnt it ;)

use the handle give it a bloody good wiggle to see if that shifts it, then give the handle a damn good whack next to the dog, not the end.

I have to say that over the years, I've removed the fan by the usually method but a couple of things. I use the long 1/2" extension from the socket set so there's very little slack in the fan. Secondly once off, I clean up both the male and femail tapers so they are clean and shiny. When replacing the fan, I spray WD40 (Plus Gas is similar) on the tapers and Copperslip on the retaining bolt.

Having said that 2CVViking's method is engineeringwise a far, far better solution.

Right Mr Viking......how did you remove the fan before you copied that neat little gizmo off the fellow raider?

how did ALL the citroen dealerships and backstreet mechanics do it for all those years?

by all means promote the little gadget but get of your high horse about it

a one off smack with a hammer with just enough force to shock the taper will do no lasting damage, running an engine with poorly maintained timing and a dirty oil cooler will have a much worse consequences will it not?

I am by no means advocating leathering seven shades of s***e out of it every time but c'mon man be reasonable the beauty of the 2 2cv is the lack of special tools needed to maintain it!

Time to chill out guys!
I've always used either a turned down rod that fits snugly in the end of the bolt hole on the fan and wacked it with a lump hammer a couple of times or shoved my 1/2" ratchet handle in the hole, as its almost a perfect fit, and then waggled the car up and down with it a couple of times and the fan always comes loose....
I believe the official Citroen way was to use a tool similar to my first method but whatever you do, do not use a pully extractor - just bends the back of the fan - found this out the hard way on my very first 2CV in 1979!
Either way, I've never, touching wood now, screwed the front bearing seal or done any other damage so get over it people and just carry on whacking the bejeasus out of it!

right be honest....

Have you ever used one? Did you ever use one? Did any of your Aus mates have one or use one? did you all get one at Citroen mechanic school?

or are you a refomed whacker ? ....be honest now ;)
I had made one in the past but never really used it and it eventually got scrapped/thrown out, once i also tried tapping the fan out to 14mm like the visa but a wiggle with the handle of the 1/2" ratchet does it every time.

The citroen and the one i made hve a mechanical advantage over the ally one as well as using the original 14mmM10 and a M7 bolt as the pusher much easier as it uses the tools at your feet rather than special ones,
but less portable than the ally one.

much respect very neat mine was like something left over from the blind welding classes 8-) but c'mon admit it- you have hit one with a hammer right?

However joe is sitting in the cold with a car that needs its fan off during the christmas holidays!

go on admit that one IKKKLE WEENY tap with a hammer is going to get the job done and the car on its way without any major distruction of the existing 2cv population!
IF he damages a fan ill , send him a new back plate from our favourite supplier( on evidence that the fan fell apart because he hit it once not because its just old and shagged  )

Sean
might go over to the workshop and play with the welder....1/2 day into my holiday and im bored

This really does seem to have gone a bit far gents.

While I must confess I am a paranoid wacker (always afraid something'll break) I really don't see the need for the animosity over suggesting wacking the blighter to smithereens may potentially be a bad idea.
