C'mon, it's gotta be the Beachy!

You could even badge it up as a "Saharacomber".

quick and rough sketch of how it works floor mounted lever then umbrella handles like the usual dash affair linked to rod on top of gear box - if you pivot the lever and link the umbrella handles at the same distance from the pivot then the gear changes are mirrored - simple and effective - id patent it if i hadn't copied it off someone else ;)

Sorry Sean, but I still don't think that would work. The forward/backward bit is fine, but when the gear stick is moved left the levers on the boxes are moved left. On the front 'box that's 1st/rev, but on the rear 'box, because it's back to front, that's 4th.

I'm with Joolz on that, it doesn't solve the problem of how to move the two gearsticks in opposite directions, one left and one right of the lever. Whilst it may be considered cheating, I think cables are the simplest way, and reduce the need for long and heavy rods running inside the passenger compartment of the vehicle.

I know the gear stick is in the wrong place but gives you an idea of the 1 rod system. i which the magazine I bought has more detailed photos of a Briot 4 x 4

No Joolz you are thinking wrong, moving the gearstick to the left everything above the pivot moves to the left but everything underneath the pivot is movin to the right.

So front leftside is moved and back side right is moved.

However I don't like this system. (Mostly to much play) in it. I lenghtened?? the rods outside the box and did something simular to move from left to right like the orignal does!!!
