John, you have a pm.

Thanks for all the input, sounds like the quickest route is the correct type of motor!

and they are rather easy to work on- remember stripping and fixing one as somebody else drove the car

main thing is to clean all the crap out from between the coper segments as when it fills up and gets damp it shorts out , then polish the copper and make sure the insulator either the little fibre hook, or a bit of cable insulation if you replace the spring, is there.

Even if this is an old thread, it's now in some countries even more important to have wiper self parking in a working order to have it to pass mot/tuv/++. I converted my 1971 2cv to a later type wiper motor also for estaetic reasons. The old two-speed old motor was too big for the dashboard plastic cover, so there was a precutted hole in it.

To get it working without relays, it's possible to modify the wiper motor. On the gearing house, two wires gets into the housing and one pin beside the wires is directly connected to house ( =ground). If you disconnect the one pin from the ground and leave it disconnected (put some insulation on it too), you can connect 12v into one of the two wires, and connect the other one to low speed wire. It works perfect on mine :)

^Yes, it works on garage, and with dry windshield. But not properly when raining and over 50km/h speeds...

Guess how I know that..?

The older motor has mechanical brake, and new version needs to short the motor when stopping it. You can make it work with only one relay, what can be operated by original switch. It is really an easy task...

Somewhere I have schematic for that..?
