Re: Charging issues (Lack of) James, that's a stopgap for a different problem. To be precise, it's when the starter motor brushes are almost worn out and walloping the motor 'persuades' them to make contact with the commutator again.  ken

Re: Charging issues (Lack of) Ken, if it means it'll last another week then so be it  I've got two dud starters in the garage. One won't engage, ( the father won't consent) and has had a massive each bedding the end of the bolt into the casting so repair of that's out the window, The other one the solonoid is dodgy and a bit of persuasion with said wood gets it going but the motor sounds truly truly awful ! Just bought a working one as a spare on e bay. Probably Going to for it as the aftermarket replacement I bought sounds just wrong
