That said, if they were wired to come on with dipped beam, i.e. not independantly switched, I would possibly fail it then. It's a grey area that would require some head scratching and careful studying of the "rule book", copious amounts of coffee and a fag or two!

 Re: Fog lights
Thanks for the clarification on the MOT issue. Anyways, legal-sham-egal, never mind that malarkey. 'Cos as twomany says, "...it will almost certainly make you look like a tool."

 Re: Fog lights
Indeed. I've started giving a hefty blast of main beam in the faces of people who are using fog lights when there's no, er, fog. Dicks. I thought you were talking rear fog lights, despite the obvious presence of the word "front" in your OP.

 Re: Fog lights
Right thanks for the info so far.. I've bought a "driving lamp installation kit" from local car bits place.... Sooooo.... Where do I wire it in? I'm extremely tempted to just wire it up to the battery now... Huge lights excite me.

 Re: Fog lights
Just read the destructions... "Driving lamps must only be used with main bean and should be extinguished when headlights are dipped. " Recon that means automatically be extinguished or "don't be an idiot and forget to turn them off" extinguished? Cos on both moderns we have the fog lights can still be on with only the sidelamps on, but that wouldn't fail an MOT? Sorry I know I'm being a pedantic idiot now.

james2cv wrote: I'm extremely tempted to just wire it up to the battery now... It's a good start. Right, the wiring is straightforward. I'm assuming that you've got an illuminated switch, and that you do actually mean FOG lights, not driving lights. * Earths. They're easy. One from the lights themselves, one from the relay pin 86. The switch might need one for the illumination. Just a good solid connection to a handy bit of solid car. * Live feed. From battery +ve to relay pin 30, WITH A FUSE AS CLOSE TO THE BATTERY AS POSSIBLE. Did you hear that, James? FUSE. CLOSE. BATTERY.* Feed to lights. From relay pin 87 to the lights. * Feed from headlight switch to foglight switch. Find which pin is live when the sidelights are on. Take a wire from that to your foglight switch. If they're long range driving lights, take it from the pin that's live when the main beam is on instead. * Feed from foglight switch to relay pin 85. So - you switch your sidelights/dip/main beam on. That lets electrickery flow to the foglight switch. When you switch that on, electrickery flows through the coil (pins 85-86) in the relay, to earth. That sucks the switch contact in the relay on, making a circuit between pin 30 and pin 87. That then allows electricity to flow from the battery to the lights and on to earth. james2cv wrote: Just read the destructions... "Driving lamps must only be used with main bean and should be extinguished when headlights are dipped. " Do you have driving lights, or fog lights? They are not the same thing. Fog lights give a short, flat, wide beam. They're useless for seeing things in good weather. Driving lights, give a long, thin beam. They're worse than useless for seeing things in fog. Quote: Cos on both moderns we have the fog lights can still be on with only the sidelamps on, but that wouldn't fail an MOT? Have you read a single word anybody's written in this thread?
