 Re: Sparkplugs
Having fitted Eyquem plugs to my 2CV, they lasted about 500miles before refusing to start the engine. Took a bit of head scratching as I checked the plugs last(with them being so new I didn't suspect them), fitted NGKs and it fired up first turn.

 Re: Sparkplugs
Multi point plugs have been around a very long time - long before the "modern" electric systems as referred to earlier & certainly as early as 1908. They are/were commonly used on aero piston engines - just last week I helped pull down an Armstrong Siddley Genet which has twin earth electrodes on the plugs. As to explaining if/how they are any better .. I've never been able to fathom it: I reckon one big spark is good enough to do the job. As to the brand? Whatever floats yer boat, as the saying goes.

 Re: Sparkplugs
I must say, having used thousands of NGK plugs over the years, maybe one or two new ones found to be faulty. Just fit and forget (apart from servicing of course)

Just fit and forget (apart from servicing of course) dave we had a thread shear off a plug in an outboard a few years back, not over tighntned or anything, about 4 months after service it went pop and sheered, our supplier had never seen anything like it

IMO the electrodes poke too far into the head on those , if you lay one next to the equivalent short reach thread NGK (b6/7/8hs you'll see.

 Re: Sparkplugs
IMO we had the multi-point plugs in Dudley until the very cold spell when it would not fire at all with them in - changed to a set of NGK's and started up first time - I have read somewhere else that they are designed with very high voltage modern car electronics in mind.....

 Re: Sparkplugs
The main purpose of multi-electrode plugs these days is simply to extend the plug life and servicing intervals, and as a consequence they also help to reduce the warranty claims on new cars. Any "improvement" noticed in any A-series lump will be pretty subjective and probably impossible to prove definitively. By all means go ahead and try them if you want but it's going to be a waste of money IMHO.

 Re: Sparkplugs
Fitted the new NGKs today, seems I'd fitted equims before (pre Czech) and must have used equims before as there was a set in my spares box. I'll see how they get on.

 Re: Sparkplugs
sam dunno about the plugs, but I expect Rob to have a bit of fun when you set things up as nicely as that for him. Not that he needs any encouragement, usually... ken samfieldhouse wrote: Fitted the new NGKs today, seems I'd fitted equims before (pre Czech) and must have used equims before as there was a set in my spares box. Re: Sparkplugs
although it hasnt been half as cold lately, i have noticed Poppy is now starting much better on a set of Ngk 7's i had when i bought the bosch super ones! she wouldnt start with them at all once it got below freezing! they had been in since august and i have actually noticed a very slight difference once running! she does actually seem a little hesitant now and then so i'd say they made acceleration smoother but thats about it! the main thing... she starts now! and when we have the next little freeze around february time... we always do... hopefully she'll be starting every morning
