That should give you some clue as to what a daft idea it was spending the same amount as a correctly sized battery would have cost on something that's not designed to fit. Cut your losses, sell the thing to someone with a tractor and buy a proper battery. Don't go f**king about trying to fit it under the seats - as others have said, this is dangerous - or whatever. You're making problems where none existed.

Besides, if you'd mentioned it I could have sent you the battery from my old Charleston for the cost of the postage.

Jonathan,
true, but I reckon that the reason why bulkheads crack on RHD cars lies elsewhere.

Citroen relocated the battery box from where it sits on LHD cars, moving it further down and towards the nearside, but didn't bother to relocate the strengthening plate which they'd used on LHD cars.
For some years, they did provide a little support bracket which was bolted onto the bulkhead, but when that was ditched...

Perishing accountants, yet again.

James, the 2cv had a 6v electrical system up until '69/70, and a 6v battery is much smaller then a 12v battery, so even with a standard 12v 063 battery fitted, you're putting too much strain on the bulkhead.

ive taken the springs out (lost one now  and then tied a piece of string to the ends and to the frame as a tempoary solution, i will make my own rods up asap,

ill go down to homebase (need to go anyway) in the next few days, as well as lidl to get that jack there apparently doing and see if i can get it there

rt the battery is only longer

erm

let me try and draw one on here
.. ___ ____
the hight is the same |__| |___|
youll have to use your imagination with that drawing, im prospective its not even much longer than my detailed (ha) drawing would show,
imagine that as looking at the side of the battery with normally a label on it
make sense?

thanks for the offer RT, but lifes full of "could of's" ;)

never mind :D

ken a friend of mine worked in the rolls factory in good wood, they all sat down and said, "what we need round here, is more clipboards, and more people with them"

typical, money before praticality / sensibility / common sense as per usual

Exactly. As I said, it's not designed to fit. Haven't you also created an issue with the bonnet stay shorting out the terminals?

ken.

hmm just sits so nice on the parcel shelf and nestled into the back of the "binnacle"

often thought of trying to replicate that on rhd

Yes, James, it fits perfectly. Apart from the cables, the bonnet support, the retainers, the extra weight, the length overhanging the tray...
