Citroen invoicing time(s) for gearbox work, including that for an overhaul, coming right up...

p.s. Re. English language, never happy with only one choice of word, when a multitude are available;

service, maintain, repair, mend, fix up, patch up, rebuild, renovate, revamp, recondition, remodel, refit, refurbish, modernize; regulate, adjust; check, check out, check over, check up on, give something a check-up, investigate, inspect, examine, survey; revise, update, reconsider, rework, restructure, realign, shake up;
N. English fettle; :lol:
Informal do up.

I idly wonder how long it took Citroen to originally assemble the boxes?

Many someone would have the times from the ''original'' recommended work shop times, Citroen dealers charges for gear box works. My guess is min. 20 max. 30 hours

Not sure how to read the hours correctly. How do you get to total hours for complete strip and back together?

That'll be the line that says "Gearbox - Conventional Clutch - Overhaul. 14.1hrs or 8.4hrs (gearbox removed), from 7/77, 13.5hrs/7.3hrs", then with a few fraction-of-hour supplements for replacing various components.

Afaik, it's the basic operation, listed as 'overhaul' in this case, plus any 'supplements' further down.

Will scan the appropriate page (after I've been back outside to lash everything down before the next squall arrives ). :(

Most European rebuilt gear boxes cost around 700 euros. Why? Rip off do you think?
Ask the D model folks, they pay double.

I'm one of those "DS-folks", and can just agree on that :roll:

Got my DS 21 gearbox overhauled here, maybe 6-7 years ago: http://www.ds-vitesse.com/en.html

Great work, it looked like a new unit, and was a dream to drive. But many expensive components was changed, like crown and pinion, some gear wheels++. So not just the bearings. I'm sure I might have gotten it done cheaper elsewhere, but I don't regret it.

Here's a picture of my box being tested at the final stages of the overhaul :)

If I was boring you with the DS-stuff, maybe this is more interesting:

Just out of interest, Elrik, how do D parts prices in general compared to 2cv...?

Adrian,
probably in the same price range as gearbox work on Tractions, as carried out by this chap not too far from me. ;)

Rick went over to visit him once, to discuss having A series synchro cones 'tickled' to restore their grip and returned here looking slightly shaken... :lol:
