I suppose it depends what you want the car for. I want mine to handle nicely and grip well, I'm not bothered about having lowered the gearing because for the most part I drive it round town or along lanes, I'm quite often flat out in fourth bit never for very long. Come to think of it, it's not a massive amount different to a standard car. If you don't care about handling but want it to sit at 120 on a motorway all day? Then you're better off with the larger tyres.

I do think a lower profile tyre looks better,

Don't really go near motorways more of a country lane man meself.. :o

Already been to my local tyre place and they looked at me funny when I asked for 145 R15..
It was like I was speaking a foregin language!!

Will try a better big place further away... will probably have more luck there...

I remember asking a local tyre firm if they knew of any 135/15s stashe anywhere. The response was simply 'Yeah, that's a space saver size'. No amount of argueing would convince them otherwise. Nobheads.

I've got to be honest, if you pushed that car hard into a roundabout, it'd go straight on but generally speakin, the handling was really good.

It was running everything straight from the Ami Super that I took it from and the chassis was at Ami super height. It just worked well. Russ, the one you had was nowhere near as tight as this one for some reason.

I'd have to say that if you're after pin sharp handling, you've got completely the wrong car!

Oh, and acceleration was never compromised by the "high" profile tyres. Remember that as long as you've got sidewall to flex, it's not breaking away. Take away the sidewall flex on a (relatively) heavy A-series and you go straight from bodyroll to sliding as you'll start trying to drive on the edges of the tyres. I hope that makes some sort of sense? I did a lot of "experimenting" on that car with all sorts of different sized tyres. In fact, I seem to recall it was best on either 135s all round or 135s on the back and 145s on the front.............. :ugeek:

Certainly not after a pin sharp handling car, don't think that is that possible with any A series unless you spend a lot of money and many mods!!

Definetely going for the smart 145's front and probably 145's at the rear but with a bigger profile, then I can play around with swapping them from front to back to see if it makes any difference!!

As standard an a series is pin sharp, by all means have a drive of mine, which has very few modifications and makes a stock 2cv feel vague and sloppy.

And FYI, my tyres are 155/60/15. I'd wholly recommend them. Yokohamas.

The tyre saga continues,

Tried 6 local companies after some 145's everyone just more or less laughed!!

So then tried 155's more luck there...
Went for Russell's suggestion with the yokohamas, They couldn't get hold of any and Yokohama themselves had some sort of problem shipping them over!!! D'oh
So i've ordered some conties still 155 60 R15
See what they are like when I get them on!!

They'll have aproximately the same rolling radius a 115/80x15 (which *may* exist as a space saver tyre) or as roughly a 145/80x13 tyre.

That's a very low rolling radius/circumference IMHO. :ugeek:
