Re: The thingy that holds the regulator...
It's French, bits drop off it, like anything built in Birmingham Perhaps Paris should be twinned with Brum!! Saying that, Worcester City council wanted to twin with Gazza City, can't think why..................Actually, there are many similarities

My first '78 drummer had one, Ellie's '82 Club doesn't.

Really nifty engine paint job (the kind of task you get absorbed by when you know you should really be doing something else...) Much improved front too. Nice job. What a task... Thanks for the kind comments - was there a pic? I can't remember if I did take one or not and I can't view the pics from my works PC

Re: The thingy that holds the regulator...
I have a Bosch regulator which is just screwed to the bulkhead.
To strengthen the battery area, I made a bracket from aluminium and fixed it underneath the existing battery tray. This stops the tray flexing and cracking the bulkhead. Takes less than an hour to make and costs bugger all.

Re: The thingy that holds the regulator...
The bracket was made from aluminium. It did only take me an hour to make it. I quickly cut a template from cardboard to check the dimensions, copied this to the aluminium and cut it. Four bends and drilled four holes and it was done. Some filing allowed the bracket to accomodate the seam on the bulkhead and to fit flush to the bulkhead. There is a pad of 5mm rubber between the original battery tray and the support bracket, so that I would not have metal to metal.
The fancy pattern on the surface probably took my friend a few hours, but you don't need to do that.
