Re: 435 to 602
Soooooo, Tested, circa '85 602 engine sitting in my shed. I also acquired a drum box, (that came with an unknown engine......) How can I identify what box I have ! (both tested and unknown engines have diaphragm clutches so I'm assuming they should fit??...)
Also, there is a "wee bit" play in the output shaft....Is this normal or is it gubbed?
Number on the top is: AM . 331 . 11 . 9 2
Also, did I read somewhere that if I come across a disk braked gearbox I could simply whip of the disc assembly and fit drums???
Cheers Gerry

On the "smooth" area next to splines, no groove: 2CV6, two grooves: 2CV4 (435, no 425), one groove at the end side: AMI8 and one groove a t the gearbox side: Mehari and van (AKS400 if I recall correct) Or rotating from input shaft, counting how many rotations and some over it need to one output round, and then comparing to gearbox data... And the exact, very sure method, tear it apart and see what gears it has inside...

Re.: 435 to 602
I would be surprised if you could find a 'used' gearbox without a little sideways play in the input shaft. Do you know any of its history. Storage, etc.

Re: 435 to 602
The image of the input shaft seems to show a threaded portion unless I'm mistaken. Is this gearbox for a centrifugal clutch? That would take a nut to hold the clutch drum to the shaft. Bit of play in the input shaft is normal.

Re: 435 to 602
Gerry, that's the wrong mix, since a diaphragm clutch should be mated to a 'long spline' gearbox. When mated with a 'short spline' gearbox, which is what you've got, it will work however there will be an increased tendency for clutch judder to occur. 48pop wrote: Rodger, don't know anything of its history.........came attached to a 602 though.
