the car will usually should have a blue mainbeam light. Coloured lenses of the lamps could have been swapped. Green direction indicator, red heated rear window, orange rear fog light, red hazard lamps. The two red lamps on top of the dash are oil pressure and brake fluid level to test the brake lamp push the button under it. it should light up.

That instrument cluster was introduced in the mid-1970s, and would have been correct throughout the lifespan of the genuine Charleston (1983 - 1990 for grey Charlestons). The font on the mileometer suggests an earlier one, as the digits reduced in size sometime in the mid-1980s.

Looks like a kilometre* per hour speedo to me.

Looks like a German market car to me; wasn't A O6/664 the designation of those engines fitted with 7.9:1 pistons to make them more suitable for (very) low octane fuel?
If that's the case, the engine number suggests 1983 manufacture.
Also, the flywheel looks like the later (diaphragm clutch) type.

There's no synchromesh on 1st gear, btw.
Briefly engage 2nd gear when at a standstill to stop the input shaft spinning, then with the clutch pedal still depressed select 1st gear, for a quieter engagement.

Not too sure if the coloured marks on the fuse box(es) are the same for LHD models, but this works for RHD versions.
"1989 onwards" for those cars fitted with 2 fuseboxes...

Of course, that is indeed what that engine plate means. It rang a bell, but I couldn't place it. And yup, it does indeed look like the later flywheel now I'm looking at it on a proper screen (rather than my phone).

WOW! Thanks for all the replies guys. I'm at work and an unusually busy tonight but will try to reply to these posts individually this weekend. A quick reply.

Thanks to the info on the dipped (low beams) and main (high beams) headlamp wires being reversed at the coil. I'll check that.

The stalk: The pilot lamps in the headlamps maybe confusing me when I operate the stalk.

I'm not used to park lamps being made into the headlamps on US spec cars. This baffled me on my Trabant 601 has to why the front amber turn signal did not light up but the headlamps did!

Also US spec cars don't have single side park lamps. Someone tapped into this feature on my Trabant when they installed an emergency flasher switch so in order to get the emergency flashers to operate, the turn signal must be pulled to the left first. Crazy!

I modified my Trabant's park lamp so it functions as both a park and turn signal. Although not required by DOT, I thought it might be a good idea. I'm sure if this video will play or not.

Thanks for the info on the non synchronized 1st gear! I thought my gearbox may be knackered. Just went through replacing the freewheel device on 4th gear on my Trabant and was concerned this transmission may have issues. I will treat it gently!

Fuses:

On this car for some reason, I do remember that the top fuse operates the driver's side (LHD) front and rear park lamps and maybe the instrument cluster. The one below it seems to operate the right hand (LHD) side park lamps. Usually the park lamps share the the same fuse.

once again it could be where someone did not get the wires hooked up correctly.

OH! long story short, but this morning while coming home, the engine was unusually loud. The exhaust pipe that connects to the silencer sheared off! About 2" from the silencer!

There is no clamp holding the exhaust pipe but I did see a nut laying on the cross member or whatever it's called.

I know I can order a new silencer from Europe but I need one now! I'm hoping I can get away with welding it up as a temporary fix this weekend.

Also that little silencer underneath the floorboards must do most of the baffling. Either that or the larger silencer is about crapped out because the car is loud! But sounds pretty cool!

It looks like some small rust holes in the bottom as well. I will try to patch them with a soft drink can and some hose clamps while I am at it.

I've got to place a "wish list" for some stuff like the green brake fluid, oil filter and stuff I cannot find here so I can minimize shipping costs.

As I found one with this Trabant, shipping from Germany is not cheap. Like 55 Euros for a 2 KG package.

However shipping from the UK and Hungary is not too expensive. Is there any 2CV suppliers in the UK? I thought Burton's was in the UK but they are in the Netherlands.

I found a supplier in Belgium but once again it's like 40 Euros for a 1 Kg package.

I have not checked to see about ordering parts from France.

I've been to their website. They seem to be kind of limited on what they carry compared to Burton and ecas2cvparts but do have some general maintenance items I need now. Especially the flared style exhaust clamp I lost!

Today I pulled the muffler off the car. I'm not sure what lead to what but as you can see the left hand bracket broke. The other bracket is OK but the bolt was missing. I had noticed the exhaust seemed a wee bit loud then coming home the car got really loud and discovered the bracket had fallen off. I found one of the nuts laying on the rear support brace (crossmember?).

Does this end of the discharge end of the silencer look "normal":

Reason being, I thought this piece broke and was stuck onto the pipe:

So I pulled the entire exhaust system off in vain to discovered this piece is welded onto the exhaust pipe:

I could not find this clamp at any autopart stores but looks just like the clamp on my 68 Ford's V8, just smaller.

Monday is a national holiday in the United States (for Monday to Friday 8 to 5 day workers anyway) so most of the exhaust shops maybe closed but I have to work anyway. Don't feel too sorry for me, I get paid 8 hours holiday pay and I work 12 hour shifts but only 14 days a month!

Got an idea for a homemade bracket in the meantime. It involves two pieces of 1/8" thick steel, a hole saw and four bolts and nuts.

If it works I'll post some pics.
