 Re: alternators and gearboxes...
You don't need to bypass the external reg to use an internal-reg alternator. Whichever of the two regs is set to a lower voltage will "win".
If the alternator's putting out 14.5v, and the external reg's set to 14.0v, then the external reg will kick in, and the battery will see 14.0v. If the alternator's putting out 14.0v, and the external reg's set to 14.5v, then the external reg will just pass it straight through, and the alternator will see 14.0v.

 Re: alternators and gearboxes...
visa alternators ( 650 ) just bolt in no problems - yes you can bridge the alternator plug with a low wattage bulb in a standard teltale warning light thats what ive done on Vickis mobile gin palace and internet node

 Re: alternators and gearboxes...
I'm led to believe that the pulley V profile on a Visa is different to a 2CV pulley profile so the belt will not sit snug on the pulley. best to check or your belt might not last as long and be likely to slip

 Re: alternators and gearboxes...
"Some" say to pulley taper is different. .. All I know is I have a pulley I chopped down, now with ripped pulleys on it, on my visa motor... but I ran it on the 2cv for quite a while... are the tapers different?

Nope. Too many 'armchair mechanics' around, with plenty of theories but very clean hands... ken Harley wrote: "Some" say to pulley taper is different. .. Re: alternators and gearboxes...
Andy, a 70A that fits? AX, Saxo or similar? i've seen some early saxo ones which have a similar pulley and similar fittings which were 70A i think!
