Harley, in your first picture, whats all the wires on the drivers side?
I only seem to have the right hand side harness?

Thats the EFI wiring loom, disregard that!

Harley

Just laid the harness out under the bonnet, fed known wires through for wiper motor, dash switches etc, fed the thick wires down for the starter and alternator, connected the rear lights feed on the right hand side (as viewed from the front) all colours matched up bar one.
There's still a mass of wires that don't seem to have a function?
Are all the green wires relating to the lights?
The light bar at the front has the wires fed through from the headlights, but non of the available green wires had any matching colours?
Stripped the insulation tape off what seemed a very lumpy loom, and found a thick yellow wire with scorch marks on and heavily insulated to another wire feeding the starter, also about 5 green wires have been spliced to another colour to extend it to its destination, but no colour on the end to assist with its true destination!
Obviously, there,s been a burn out at some point and someone's done a splice repair, so that answers some questions about where the mass of wrongly coloured wires go!
The wiring is ok till just past the starter motor, so if I chop off all the greens and extend them with correct gauge wire, and soldered connection, I should be ok!
Or perhaps I could get hold of a good 2nd hand loom? Any idea how much one would be?
Still plodding on and any photos you pass on especially with colours showing will still be of great use to me.

Can anyone explain why 2 green, 2 grey and one yellow are spliced together?
I took the insulation tape off, and found this?
Is this a Citroen thing, or a cock up?
Sorry about three identical images!

Confusing to the newby don't you think?
I've got dozens of green wires, then I've got yellow and grey spliced to green?
Madness!

I also found a wire from the rear light , green ( what else would I expect?) with a red sleeve, put my tested on it and it buzzed out on a green wire with a purple sleeve!
Suppose I shouldn't expect normal from Citroen should I?
Cheers
Paul

 ,you think that's bad,try working on Suzuki 300 hp outboards.Nightmare of all nightmares.Wiring colours change at the drop of a hat. And,as its an EFI,you can imagine how many sensors are on it,they just seem to change them for fun.Citroen wiring is a doddle compared to the Japanese.

That splicing is "normal" for 2CV.
I know its a bit late now, but if you get stuck for rewiring, just placing the wiring loom in roughly the area and things have a habit of being in the right place, ish!

I agree, but the looms been messed with over the years, bits added, wires going nowhere, colour changes for no reason?
The problem i have is for example, the rear of the headlight has two wires, grey and brown sleeve, but before it travels more than 300mm, the grey and brown have changed to yellow sleeve and mauve sleeve? WHY??
I suppose i should throw logic out the window when dealing with Citroen!!!!

I would suggest you lay the loom out as suggested - Tape up and make good any suspect joints - Get all the components working properly - Then pull the loom to bits and make your own using wire and terminals from a reputable supplier like "Ilkeston Wiring Products" Or any others more convenient / closer etc

I wouldn't think for a minute that all the modifications you seem to have to your loom have been done all at the same time - I suspect one year one headlamp connection packed up - Next year the loom dropped onto the exhaust on route to a sunnier climate -Next year - You get the picture :)
I would say that your loom had character
Oh and please ensure that the grommet is placed in the hole correctly as in a few months you will be doing it all again

Post Re: Wireing problems?
Thanks for the advice, I'm a long way off worrying about the grommet :D
I've split the harness open and loosely fitted it in place, any connections I'm 100% sure about, I will connect, anything I don't know where or what it does/goes, I will trace it and label it up.
Any damaged ones I can replace , and I might even consider buying some better connections!
I'll get there eventually, but anyone can feel free to chip in with advice and suggestions, I'm really greatful for any input.
