I think heat expansion in the spring is the cause. It's right above a very hot part of the car.

but the carb always runs cold due to the way it works - that's why Citroen added a heater to it ;)

the plastic cables (when worn?) tend to get "grippy" when hot you can feel it in the pedal in those long bank holiday standstills.

Yup, it's that old favourite, 'latent heat of evaporation'.

Thanks for all the top tips :)

It's the Mehari and it does seem to get worse when the car's hotter.... I'll have a fiddle next week when I'm back with her.

I'm running an experiment. I've put a 22mm copper pipe as a sleeve over the spring. I'll let you know if it makes a difference by the end of the summer. Summer?

which spring the return spring on the cowling to linkage?
