You never know - he might be willing to pay the postage to get it to him if only to salvage the good parts? Might be worth a call to him at the very least - its not like anyone's churning out new gearboxes, seems a shame to skip it.

That said, its your gearbox, do with it what you will!

Those symptoms definitely point to input bearing.

Exactly the same happened to ours on the way to Salbris. 200 miles in third gear to save our ears.

Luckily Rick Pembro was there and he rebuilt it. He replaced all the bearings while he had it apart and the cost was very reasonable.

John, its Russ were talking to here, sling a good un in and save the broken one for Rick just take it along to any race and pass it on to him.

gearboxes are surprisingly easy as long as your not messing about with the diff alignment

What's involved in changing this bearing then? I'm not paying somebody else to fix it. How much are these bearings? Is it just a standard size I can get from the local bearing shop? All I know about gearboxes is that they're full of pingfuckkitts and are probably beyond my patience, but if it means an evening away from the Missus and nipper then it's probably worth trying.

Do you need bearing press tooling and stuff or can this be done on a bench with a hammer.

i.e do you need loads of specialist tools.
