Thanks guys :)

I thought there may be some issues with the thin barrel.

The reason I ask is because I have been given some and thought I may be pre warned before I fit them. I would appear the worst I can do is seize it and have to refit my old ones.

Any more thoughts ....

You should have told earlier, if you have them allready (and for free) don't waste time and put them on.......... But when they are new; drive very gently for the first 5000km put on new oil with 500, 1000 and 5000km..... filter at 500 and 5000 km

Check also if there is enough clearance between head and pistons there have been issues that the piston was hitting the head.........So if fitted everything turn the engine by hand a few revelutions to make sure everything runs properly......

There are much problems with big bore 2cv barrels/pistons, be it from Burton or otherwise.
Heat is building up in the thin(ner) walls deforming them and then the pistons get stuck in the barrel; the engine is going to lockup, cooling down will help, but when it returns a few times you can write off the pistons and barrels.... Theres also a long period of driving very carefully about 5000km from new not going faster then 90 km/h, but mostly this won't help....

I personally believe that the better way is to take a complet Visa engine, but never let a Visa engine run faster then 5750 rpm they aren't designed for it......... the pistons are to heavy and at higher rpm they are working against the engine (dead weight) insted of working with it.......

If you can open up the Visa engine first and look if the oilplate inside is in a good shape or make a new one (Harleys topic)....

Will not be the same with Visa pistons in a bored out barrel???

There was a 2cv Van from Croatia? maybe? on the 2008 raid which had a 2cv motor with Visa pistons, bored out. I had no heat distortion issues that I know of and it was heavily loaded also!

A good bigbore doesn't use Visa pistons, but special made pistons, I think Visa pistons (with Original piston rings) won't work well, because the Visa barrels have had a special treatment called Nikasil.... so the Original rings will destroy the 2cv barrels (I guess).....

Take a look at this site.... http://www.citroentuning.de/he_2cv.php

That is a valid point, thank you.

I think you have had the best idea yet .... chuck it on an see what happens. If it appears worthwhile I could perhaps get some chrome rings.

But before I do that, I have to get the Bedouin's oil leak issue (different topic) resolved and the engine running reliably. Then tidy it and put it in for it's MOT.... perhaps another topic!

Something that has as yet not been mentioned is the affect on your insurance with a modified car,I would ensure that my insurance would not increase so much a to make this not worth while. You may be considering just doing it and saying nothing. That is a risky option,if you are unfortunate to have an accident, any examination of your car after by your insurance could result in them not paying out. To the letter of the law you would be uninsured in the first place, just thought you should aware.

Nothing to worry about here in Holland, a car may have 40% more power-output before you need an road-legal examination, Insurance goes by weight not power over here......

Insurance cost about 69 euro a year for a car older then 25 years.... (well most cars)
