What's the difference between an white special and a red one? ;)

Why don't those of us with pre-85 reg numbers just swap with the under 25s?

This is such a stupid rule, it's not the age of the car its a historic marque, they're all basically the same. If it makes you feel any better FJ sent me a massive press release to go in the mag about how great their new under 25 insurance policy is. I saw the post 85 rule and thus have refused to publish it.

Not sure about that. Mine's an 85, no modifications...

Yeah, wasn't sure about that one tbh. Was it the change over year?

Yes, in summer '85. MY Dad's blue celeste, which was B reg and first registered in July 1985, didn't have them.

So because _some_ younger owners might not benefit, you're keeping the benefit from _all_ younger owners? Hmm... Helpful...

There's really no point in shouting at FJ and giving them chapter and verse, either - they won't care. If they started to compile a list of pre- and post-cutoff date changes for every car that they might be called on to insure, they'd rapidly cease to become an insurance company and become an automotive historical archive. And that's not very profitable for them. Which is, after all, what they exist for. FJ aren't just a bunch of nice people who like old cars and really only get out of bed in the morning to help other people like old cars too. They're no more than a marketing brand of "the leading global provider of risk management services, insurance and reinsurance brokerage, and human resource consulting and outsourcing. Through its more than 65,000 colleagues worldwide, Aon delivers distinctive client value via innovative and effective risk management and workforce productivity solutions." (http://www.aon.com)

It's really quite simple. Too young to insure a post-85 2cv through FJ? Find a different insurer or find an older 2cv. James has already said that Flux will quote where FJ won't. Looking to buy a 2cv? Find out what you can and can't insure first. And, yes, having easy access to the information about FJ's cutoff dates might help with that, Sam... Don't just reprint the "massive" press release. Precis it and add some comment.

If FJ have made an effort to insure younger owners then you should at least commend them on that. So they won't insure cars made in less 10% of the total production years? For a tiny percentage of the owners? And only because their underwriters have put some clause in? Doesn't seem like a problem worth getting your panties in a bunch over. Buy an older car, but an older log book, pay more for your insurance or wait a couple of years and harden the fuck up. When I was 18 I was paying £2500pa for my car insurance with one of only two companies who would cover me, the other of which wanted £10k. Bloody kids today don't know they're born/want everything gifted on a plate/think the world owes them a living etc etc.
