It's worth thinking about that short fuel pipe that connects the pick up from the tank to the long nylon pipe,if that's split then you get problems with fuel delivery. It's a case of dropping the tank to get at it.

thats also something, but then why would it only cause a problem when on a slope?

last night i backed down a driveway which goes to a field, nose in the air, and she began to run fluffy, however didnt cut out after a few seconds she sat there and chugged for a good few minutes still running but ever so lumpy to the point where the oil press light was flickering away, however i ran her on choke for a few seconds and she then ran perfectly without it for about 10 minutes... then she started running lumpy again!

then after a 6-8 mile drive back to a friends house and then home, when parked up on the kerb she literally started running lumpy within a few seconds of parking up and cut out within 20 seconds of parking...

You could test it with a gravity feed fuel tank.

It would eliminate the tank, piping and fuel pump as the cause.

If it's still a problem then you know it's the carb itself.

Or maybe, possibly the last person to have had their paws on it?
"i did have the top of the carb off a couple of weeks ago and gave it a clean out and its only since then that she's started misbehaving! "

You didnt knock the pin (are there pins holding the float on a 2cv?) holding the float that also acts as a hinge? If so the float could be 'floating freely'?

Stab the dark!!

Maybe stop parking it on the kerb? ;)

Constant source of annoyance round here is those that seem to think it's ok to block the pavement to avoid causing minor inconvenience to other car users. I always try and make a point of knocking a wingmirror when walking past. :)

haha RT ;) well with 4 of us in the house and 3 that drive... theres always a car on the drive, a transit on the kerb which i'm usually parked with.. i used to park on the lawn next to the drive but the grass has since perished...

the problem is definitely fuel related and only when the car isnt flat... i took a different route home from the workshop which involved a steep downhill - fine and then a steep uphill... hit the bottom at around 65-70 and the second i started going uphill the power just "dropped off"

debating dropping the tank on sunday and checking the top pipe!

Managed to replace that small piece of rubber tubing by lowering the tank just a little on a trolley jack (with a small plank on top) and getting my hand in from the left hand side.

It helped that I have smallish hands and am left handed.

Just remember where the plastic spacers and washers go when you bolt it back up.
