Just for the record, you can have batteur's without the Friction dampers. In fact Citroen themselves fitted batteurs and hydraulic shocks to my car. It has a lovely ride as the batteurs stop the pattering of the wheel over uneven surfaces.

I know :geek:

Josh - just wondered if you were doing away with the front dampers as they become the lowest part of a seriously low car and take all the hits ...and its an expensive do replacing the front shocks that have been planed down till the oil comes out, or clouted to the point the chassis pin gets bent.

I managed to bend a front shock at full extension (back in my low 2CV days...early - mid 90's when it was curtain haircuts, padded lumberjack shirts, big round specs and 18 hole cherry red DMs; sigh wistful look), and that was quite exciting as the car stayed low on one side only, making groaning noises, until the shock mounting sheared off the chassis.

We managed to blag an Arc welder off the Uni and stitch it back on thankfully. :-D

The wrong chassis doesn't help with runoff a car low, not sure what you have but Frome chassis are the worst for lowered cars. The damper mounts are slung below the chassis and you go through dampers in no time. Batteurs give a superb ride on the cars they came on bit if your car is super low and I'd guess you're looking at a ride height of somewhere between 30-40mm I think you're better off looking for proper dampers such as Avos or Gaz. From experience, the benefits of batteurs are only really felt when traversing potholed or rough surfaces, which you won't be doing much of. Look at how race cars are done and start from there. That's pretty much how my road car is and shit chassis aside it's awesome. When I had my ami poverty-slammed with it's batteurs and standard springs it was bloody awful to drive.

As has been said, using old 2cv arms with the swivel hubs on them is an option I'd you want to persist with what you're doing but the lugs for the damper mountings need beefing up substantially. Ami arms should be fine though as they all had hydraulic dampers anyway. I really wouldn't waste time using frotteurs on a low car. I unfortunately cut up my ami hubs out of curiosity otherwise you could have had them, the wheel bearing were beyond ruined in them. My personal opinion regarding your car would be to use standard 2cv arms and swivels with the holed drive flange as they're the lightest. Turn the arms and use the same springs and dampers the race cars use.
