Here are some instructions if you can read them courtesy of Ken's flickr page.

Thanks Knightley for the infos. I ll give it a shot on weekend . But i will need some guideness too...!

edit: searching here and at the google ( mostly here ) i can see that i am the only one from all the guys with unwindign problem that has been noticed only in the 1st gear. It also mekes me wonder why i dont have problem selecting any gear ?

So is there any possibility of not been this common problem ?

Now i just washed the gearbox with water took of the heater pipes and unscrew the brake pipes clips . Is there anybody here who have done it to help me with some photos and instructions ?

Ok guys did the first step and i hope not the last one two. Opened the gearbox from the top and took out the oil . I measured 870ml although it scared me at the beggining thinking that the oil that were in there werent more than 500ml.

This is a photo that i took .

I didn;t do much today as i didnt knew what to look for. Tommorow i ll wash it out whith some diesel fuel ( is it ok or it could damage anything in there ? ) take a closer look inside trying to figure out what is wrong with that.

The only thing that i can understand ( identify to be more specific ) in there is the selector ring .

Any work arounds guys are welcome.

Ok some progress. I ve shot this video. The most is muted ( wind noise and my awfull voice) but i have some parts that you can hear and see what is happening when the 1st gear is engaged .

http://youtu.be/n5ouQye5qxs

The other new is that i ve found inside two small pieces of metal of 1-2mm diameter. I know that this is bad but the point is that i am trying to avoid removing the engine.

So from what you can see is there any easy work around ?

Post Re: 1st gear terrible noise problem
OK guys from waht i can tell the 1st gear ring has moved out fro it thread. To take it back i need to remove the selector forks. How do i do that with the gearbox on the car. they seemed to be able to move only backwards but there is no room for that.

Is that what viking says on another thread that you have to move the engine forward ( it is practically the same work ar it is to take the engine out i suppose) .

Also this collar that you are talking about taskos how do i tightened it? Is it with the peening method ?

About the bearing balls . How many are there? I stored one which was under the spring . If there are another two then probably the one on the 4th fork is measing .

You don't need to remove selector fork to screw back sleeve.

Use a screwdriver wedged against sleeve (maybe in one of the existing peening marks) and, with a levering motion against a selector rod, screw it back.

Then peen it properly as per ken's instructions.

Guys my apologies for my stupidity once more but i cant see if the selector ring is unscrewed.

ANother video. Anyway if it is unscrewed then there must be something that i am doing wnorng and i just cant screw it back.

On the other hand the selector ring which is on the 1st gear it has a lot of playing. And i think that the hidden side of is bended.

Please can somebody point me what i am doing wrong ?

There are 4 more balls but if you don't remove the selector rods are secured.
In the new video a huge play is visible.
Try to screw back the ring but the dogs may be allready out of place...
